This is a hip hop mix that I did sometime in 2006. As you can see from the tracklist, there are a lot of songs, yet the whole mix is only 50 minutes. I cut each track down to 1 or 2 minutes, leaving only the verses I like and I mixed the hell out of the rest. It was the first time I really put a vocal track over another beat, creating a blend of 2 songs. Most of the songs are blended into each other and the rest are tied in with interludes and other sounds. It's one of those mixes where I look back and shake my head because I think I spent much too much time doing things that only I'll be able to hear...unless you really know the songs well. One of the blends that I was most happy with is the Lupe Fiasco vocal track for Kick, Push that I put over Kanye's beat he gave Cam'ron for the song, Down and Out. I'm not a fan of Cam'ron...especially what he raps over that beat, but I absolutely love that beat. It's at about 26:00 minutes if you want to skip and quickly check it out! 1) paul: the reintroduction 2) Jay-Z - Public Service Announcement (Kno remix) 3) Cunninlynguists - Lynguistics 4) Binary Star - Reality Check 5) Interlude - Knos Diggin 6) Little Brother - All For You 7) Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek - Love Speakeasy (paul remix with Jay-Z) 8) Common feat. This podcast is a compilation of songs from artists I've been listening to for the last few weeks. Most of them are by bands I'll be seeing at Lollapalooza this year. All of them are on constant rotation in my car and headphones. The thing is, I'm a little worried. The high-level of hipster groove and soul within this collection has brought me to the point where I must warn you if you plan on listening to it straight through: This compilation will rock your socks. I have personally been through 3 pairs of gray Costco socks - it actually puts the 'r' in 'rock-socking'. It's disgusting. Be afraid. Oh, and Santogold leads the pack. My socks flee my feet and run in pairs when they hear her name. 1) Santogold - Shove It (feat. Spank Rock) 2) Spank Rock - Rick Rubin (President Eutl remix) (3:30) 3) M.I.A. - 20 Dollar (6:53) 4) The Roots - Rising Down (feat. Mos Def & Styles P) (11:07) 5) J Dilla - Creepin' On You (14:40) 6) The Cool Kids - 'Sup (17:24) 7) Kid Sister - Girlie Rock (Flosstradamus mix) (19:48) 8) Black Kids - I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You (The Twelves Remix) (22:29) 9) Van She - Strangers (Van She Tech Remix) (26:05) 10) Bloc Party - The Prayer (Does It Offend You, Yeah? Remix) (29:51) 11) Does It Offend You, Yeah? - Doomed Now (33:08) 12) Santogold - L.E.S. Artistes (XXXChange Remix) (36:42) |

That's pretty much what I was thinking when I heard the remix of Teenager's "Alone Again" by VAN SHE. They have a great way of cutting up the sample and fueling it with 80’s post punk, funk and synth pop. I began mixing that track with a Louis La Roche song before I realized that all I wanted to do was play VAN SHE remixes. So I blended a bunch of them together. The great thing about VAN SHE is that they are, first and foremost, an Aussie band...not a 'remix band'. Their debut album, "V", comes out in August on Modular Records. On this album they worked with producer Jim Abbiss (Arctic Monkeys, Ladytron, Kasabian). What I've been most impressed with is the remixes they've done. Their 'sound' blends well together so I tried to make a VAN SHE 'remix-mega-mix' without screwing around too much. So, take the next 48-minutes and enjoy. 1) Teenager - Alone Again (Van She Tech Remix) 2) Ladyhawke - Back Of The Van (Van She Tech Turbo Fire Engine Mix) 3) Dragonette - I Get Around (Van She Vocal Mix) 4) New Young Pony Club - Ice Cream (Van She Tech Remix) 5) Martine Topley-Bird - Poison (Van She Mix) 6) I Am Finn - I Love You (Van She Tech Remix) 7) Feist - 1234 (Van She Remix) 8) The Bravery - Time Won't Let Me Go (Van She Tech Remix) 9) Klaxons - Gravity's Rainbow (Van She Remix) 10) Van She - Cat and the Eye (Van She Tech Remix) |
