The third compilation in the "Slow and Low" series. I usually get a kick out of a good cover song...assuming it's well done. Some of them tread the line of cheesy, yet others create a new feel altogether. From my understanding, a cover song is a way to honor a song that someone views as classic. If that's the case, the more renditions that one song has by other artists, the more 'classic' it must be, right? Jealous Guy by John Lennon has been covered and commercially released 192 different ways...so it must be a classic (in my opinion, the Donny Hathaway version is better than the original). A recent trend seems to be to cover Umbrella, by Rihanna. According to Wikipedia, artists such as Amanda Palmer, Manic Street Preachers, OneRepublic, Lillasyster, Scott Simons, Marie Digby, Mandy Moore, Tegan and Sara, Vanilla Sky, Biffy Clyro, My Chemical Romance, Linkin Park, All Time Low, McFly, Plain White T's, Taylor Swift, and others have covered it in different styles. As long as the cover sounds great or invokes a smile, it's all good. Here is a brief sample of some great covers of some great songs. 1. Easy Star All-Stars - Karma Police (feat. Citizen Cope) [Radiohead] 2. Ebrahim - Lady & Paris/Tokyo [D'Angelo & Lupe Fiasco] 3. Donny Hathaway - Jealous Guy [John Lennon] 4. Obadiah Parker - Hey Ya [Andre 3000] 5. Cibo Matto - About a Girl [Nirvana] 6. Ebrahim - Oops, I Did It Again [Britney Spears] 7. Kay Pettigrew - Fresh Prince of Bel Air [Will Smith] 8. Nina Gordon - Straight Outta Compton [N.W.A.] 9.
